Creating an Intentional Life – Step 2

If you’re just joining us, be sure to go back and read
the post that started it all and Step 1.

Live an Intentional Life, Step 2 |DaniSchnakenberg.comThis week we are focusing our lens a little bit and getting a clearer look at the important areas in our lives that we noted last week.  Do you have your list in front of you?  What’s on it?

My original list looked like this:

  • Family
  • Self
  • Organizing
  • Money
  • Businesses
  • School

Pretty vague, huh?  But it gave me an opportunity to really get a bird’s eye view of my life.  The problem was that they seemed…cold…and I didn’t feel very connected to these words.  And well, when you’re not connected, you’re not likely to take them seriously and do anything with them.

So I decided to take into account the main themes for each area and see if I could warm them up and connect with this big themes.

Here’s my final big list:

  • People I Love (nurturing relationships with family and friends, parenting, romance)
  • Loving Myself (personal growth and health)
  • Simple, Happy Home (finishing unpacking, organizing, making our house a home)
  • Financial Health
  • Dani Schnakenberg Studios (my business)
  • Simplify Health (my other business)

Now, these are themes with MEANING.  When I read these, I feel connected and confident and determined.  They spark something inside of me in a way the original list didn’t.  At a glance, you can tell what the overall goal in each area is.  With the exception of the businesses, but those are a different bird.  😉

So sit down with your big fuzzy picture areas and focus them a little bit.  Think about the overall feelings you want to relate to them and add those into the theme title for each area of your life.

PS – Did anyone notice that one thing from my first list didn’t even make it to my final list?  Don’t be afraid to trim the areas of your life if you find yourself overwhelmed.  There is nothing wrong with saying no or putting areas on hold until they fit better in your life.

Share your final list!
You never know, you might inspire someone!
